"Palettes for sprites: 2"
"Sprites are 3 colours plus transparent, not 4. If you want to use all 4 colours, you can overlay sprite objects. Some GB games did this, AFAIK some NES games did as well."
This video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7oFxOuL1Kg
demonstrates how to customize palettes and change the palette for a sprite.
I believe these building blocks can be used to accomplish a 4-colored obelisk made out of sprites that you can go behind (to never use that technology anywhere else. But you know what they say: the first impression is the most important)
kknots
1) Aw, disappointed that I can't walk behind the obelisk on the first screen (would've been a really cool, first impression effect).
2) Who composed the music?
3) Whom does simulacra imitate? (Not the protagonist, definitely)
4) Omg, trying to cast a spell with not enough MP wastes the turn!
5) Menu says I have 4 EXP, but how much do I need until the next level?
6) Aw, I have no potions and am low on life...
7) Nvm, the sacred flame burns, warding off evil or smth.
8) Why is the music so over the top happy? Occasionally descends into minor, but comes right back out into major. This world doesn't seem like a happy place, more like postapocalyptic.
9) So reaching a new EXP level does not replenish health, OK.
10) I acquired a peculiar ... coin B?? xD Do I even know what that means??? "Coin B" just sounds a bit immersion-, fourth wall breaking.
11) You can just continuously walk into a wall (this means you don't actually move) and there will be encounters anyway! This means you must be careful with how you move around the area, I like that actually. Adds difficulty/precision to basic things like movement, lol.
12) I wanted to interact with the statues in the back of the Shrine of Exerey to see if the protag would say something about them, but alas... On the other hand, you overcompensated for it with those clay tablets (at least some of them. I would applause if you actually managed to write a unique desc for each single tablet stand).
13) *finishes a fight* *walks literally one step* *another fight starts*
14) Had a situation where an encounter ("!") happened right as I was leaving a location, and what ended up happening was I just transitioned to the new location without a fight. Interesting.
15) Desired feature: Navigate the "Key items" section of the menu: select individual items, and read their descriptions.
16) I saw a guy sitting on a roof on the location between the scribe headquarters and the old guardhouse, but an encounter happened, and then he disappeared. He comes back if you reenter. Can't interact with him :( He's probably a fun dude
17) I've collected three different colored jewels. I'm like that villain from FixKids Ironman cartoon.
18) Arane: *insults, more insults* "...your undoubtedly very limited comprehension..." cracked me up, man xD
19) Hollow Shell enemy sprite did not look like anything to me at first. Way too much visual noise.
20) What is Revenant holding in his right hand? It looks like a boomstick or a cross. Also, Revenant looks like he has a carrot body with an angry face on its side.
21) Oh no, someone has looted all the chests in the Treasury before me... those vandals. *finds stuff in them anyway*
22) An hour into the game, the protagonist walk up animation makes him look like he has two tiny legs/arms at his bottom, and he's pushing off the ground with them. It's very funny.
23) Arane: "You are a threat and I shall treat you a one." (sic) Me: a one what? Aw, he disappeared without finishing.
24) Oh well, the game seems to end at the doorway past the staircase that was guarded by Arane. Ggs.
25) It's hard to remember now, but I think one of the scribe headquarters' tablet descs had a typo: ",his" instead of "This", I think. I'm not going back to check.
Kiloru
1) It is significantly harder to do than it may look, obelisk is firmly embedded into background layer (due to having 4 colors) and the only way i think of is to somehow partially hide protagonist's sprite and I honestly have no idea how
2) Cubic Feet per Minute from itch.io
3) You are asking hard questions that I have no answers for
11) That's because random encounter check is literally a timer that checks if any movement buttons are currently pressed and rolls for encounter chance if yes x)
12) OH NO OH NO OH NO
I WAS SUPPOSED TO BUT I KINDA FORGOT
Tablets are currently a bunch of placeholders and i absolutely forgot to fill them up x( also you're the second person telling me about statues, probably should do aomething about it
14) Yep, that happens, i should p r o b a b l y disable encounter checks each time scene transition begins
15) It really should work this way, agree (I am also lazy and honestly won't guarantee that I will make it)
20) it's supposed to be a broken sword or something like this, but boomstick undead sounds fine, too x)
24) Yep, that's all so far
(maybe will add something to this reply later, i am barely awake rn)
