The clay tablets are much funnier now, I chuckled at two of them. One was: "We're the clayborn" or something. "Clayborn" as a word by itself is already a fire concept. The other was "We shall rule not as kings, but as GODS", because my god, the vanity in that statement.
Anyway, I beat this. I don't think you really need to do anything else here, frankly, it feels finished.
I also abused your explanation of how random encounters are triggered. If you move by tapping the key for just one frame, the character (sometimes) moves all the way, but you end up holding the key for one frame, right? Well, this allows me to pass an entire level with just 0-2 encounters, very rarely 3, if you're unlucky. This lets you save up on lots of potions, I think I had 5 by the end of the game. Which is a waste of effort, now that I think about it, and torturing my finger/keyboard like that was unnecessary. I just thought at some point, maybe the potions can be used in battle, but they can't, so there's no point saving them.
Anyway, you sound exhausted by this project, but maybe that because you've really outdone yourself? I think this is your biggest game by far. Your first GBStudio game I think had 3 bosses.

Also I'm just now realizing, that the Guardian Obelisk sprite is from your first game, Webs and Lanterns. Also both games are about bug people (I mean both the protagonists, they have long antennas growing from their heads; I am deeply sorry if they're not meant to be bugs, they just look like ones to me), ascendancy and abandoned cities. Hm, maybe there is a connection, maybe they're set in the same universe. Or it could just be your personal theme atm.

Thanks for playing again, your input was greatly appreticated!

Yep, you probably should save your hands x) it probably becomes more annoying than just fleeing every encounter anyway

Potions were supposed to be out-of-battle-only items from the very beginning (to think of it, average jrpg would call it a tent or something), guess its not delivered clearly enough

Not exactly exhausted, more of "i have many more ideas I want to try out" and "my scripting begins to look like a plate of delicious spaghetti" x) though yes, compared to the rest of my finished games it is rather l a r g e
At least I overcame Overstay trauma and made something moderately complex I guess

Yep, I lifted some assets from webs&lanterns (mostly for backgrounds of outside sections), and considering characters and themes, it _is_ pretty much the same game, taking place in the same place etc etc. Characters are the same, with some design tweaks (protagonist is the same guy, Arane was the final boss in w&l, and Ataro is the same hangs-near-savepoints-infodump-person, just named this time). NS is essentially a remake, with some initial scale added back (yes, w&l changed engines 3 times, was supposed to be an rpgmaker game at some point, and then i discovered GBstudio and turned w&l into a study project with scale dramatically cut down)

And yes, of course they absolutely are bug people.
